Holter Monitoring (with analysis)

There are several variations of Holter monitoring.

24-hour Holter Monitoring (with analysis)

24-hour Holter Monitoring is a diagnostic test that allows detailed evaluation of heart activity over a full day. This method is especially useful when symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, or rapid heartbeat occur frequently and repeatedly.

During the test, electrodes are attached to the patient’s chest and connected to a small monitoring device. The patient wears this device continuously for 24 hours while carrying out their usual daily activities, including those that may have previously caused discomfort. The patient is also given a diary to record activities, symptoms, and their timing. The device records heart activity throughout the 24-hour period.

On the following day, at the scheduled time, the patient returns to the clinic to have the device removed. The recorded data is then analyzed by a physician to assess for possible heart rhythm disturbances. Test results are typically available within one week.

24-hour Holter monitoring helps physicians to:

  • Detect transient cardiac arrhythmias;
  • Assess changes in heart activity over a 24-hour period;
  • Evaluate heart rhythm during episodes when symptoms occur.

This examination is suitable for both young patients and individuals with chronic heart conditions, as well as athletes.

72-hour Holter Monitoring (with analysis)

72-hour Holter monitoring provides extended cardiac rhythm surveillance, which is especially useful when symptoms are infrequent and irregular. It allows for more comprehensive and accurate information about heart activity over a longer period.

During the examination, the patient is fitted with a Holter monitor and given a diary to record daily activities and symptoms. The device is worn continuously for three days, enabling the detection of less frequent arrhythmias that may not appear during shorter monitoring periods. After 72 hours, the patient returns to the clinic to have the device removed.

The collected data is analyzed by a physician who assesses potential cardiac rhythm disturbances. Results are typically available within one week.

72-hour Holter monitoring is suitable for:

  • Patients with infrequent cardiac symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, or palpitations;
  • Assessing the frequency and severity of arrhythmias;
  • More complex diagnostic cases requiring in-depth analysis.

This examination helps the physician to more accurately diagnose potential cardiac abnormalities and tailor treatment to the patient’s needs.

Preparation:
No special preparation is required.

7-day Holter monitoring (with analysis)

Dr. Feders Center offers an extended cardiac rhythm monitoring service – 7-day Holter monitoring with professional analysis. This method is particularly suitable for patients who require longer-term heart rhythm observation, for example, in cases where symptoms such as palpitations, irregular heartbeat, weakness, or fainting occur infrequently and cannot be captured during standard 24- or 48-hour monitoring.

The test is carried out using modern, comfortably wearable equipment that does not interfere with daily activities and provides continuous recording of the heart’s electrical activity over a period of seven days. After the monitoring period, the data is thoroughly analyzed, and the patient receives a medical report along with individual recommendations for further diagnostics or treatment.

To ensure accessibility across Latvia, the 7-day Holter monitoring service is provided in cooperation with E. Gulbja Laboratory locations. This enables patients to conveniently receive high-quality diagnostics not only in Riga but also in other regions, while maintaining consistently high professional standards.
