Thyroid ultrasound
Thyroid ultrasound is a safe, painless, and informative diagnostic method that allows the assessment of the thyroid gland’s size, volume, shape, structure, and vascularization. This examination provides detailed information about the gland’s condition and possible changes, which are essential for both early disease diagnosis and long-term monitoring of the patient’s health status. It is a quick procedure that delivers accurate results, helping the physician to provide appropriate treatment and monitor the patient’s health. Thyroid ultrasound can diagnose various conditions, including thyroid enlargement, nodules, and chronic or acute inflammation.
Thyroid ultrasound is necessary if:
- The patient has a visibly enlarged thyroid or an enlargement that can be felt by palpation;
- Nodules or other structural changes are detected upon palpation of the gland;
- The patient reports sensations of pressure, discomfort, or pain in the neck area;
- Changes are observed in thyroid function laboratory tests (TSH, T3, T4, thyroid antibodies);
- There is suspicion of autoimmune thyroid diseases, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Graves’ disease;
- The patient has enlarged lymph nodes in the neck area or there is suspicion of malignant processes;
- A diagnosis of thyroid disease has already been made, and dynamic monitoring is required.
Thyroid ultrasound is an essential examination both for early detection of pathologies and for monitoring disease progression, ensuring timely diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment approach.
