Urologist
A urologist is a physician specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the urinary tract system in both women and men. Additionally, urologists address men’s reproductive health issues, including prostate diseases, erectile dysfunction, and infertility.
What to expect during a urologist consultation?
The visit begins with a conversation in which the doctor listens to the patient’s complaints, reviews their medical history, and, if necessary, examines the results of previous tests. The urologist may then perform a clinical examination, such as palpation of the abdomen and urinary tract. Depending on the symptoms and concerns, additional tests may be ordered, including urine analysis, ultrasound, or blood tests.
When should you visit a urologist?
- Experiencing pain or burning during urination;
- Frequent urination or problems with urine retention;
- Presence of blood in the urine;
- Pain or discomfort in the lower back or lower abdomen;
- Symptoms of prostate problems, such as difficulty urinating;
- Erectile dysfunction or other men’s health concerns;
- Family history of urinary tract or prostate diseases, smoking, or excess weight;
- Men over 50 years old – regular check-ups help detect and prevent prostate health issues that become more common at this age;
- If you engage in active sports or heavy physical labor – regular examinations help identify injuries or strain-related changes that may affect health and prevent more serious problems.
